Chimney inspections come in different levels
A Level One Inspection:
Our technicians will observe and report on integrity that may wear from the weather and the elements. It is not designed to check for draft, safe usage or functionality of the fireplace. The National Fire Protection Agency describes a level one inspection as an inspection limited to interior and exterior, readily accessible, and visible portions of the appliance, chimney connection and chimney.

A Level Two Inspection:
This includes everything from a level one inspection as well as the goal of decreasing hazardous conditions. This requires a visual inspection of the chimney and flue. This is accomplished by using specialized cameras that can record teh flue and other not readily accessible areas.

Regardless of the level of inspection you require it is important to maintain the integrity of your chimney and is critical for safe use. All fireplaces and chimneys are required to be inspected before first use and should be checked annually. Below is an example of what a detailed report would entail.
Home Buying and Pre-Sale Chimney Inspections
Before a home can exchange ownership the seller must provide the buyer with a disclosure. This contains a detailed report on the safety and condition of the chimney and fireplace. Home buyers should have professionals prepare a detailed inspection report to ensure the disclosure is accurate.

This type of inspection would fall under the level two inspection.

If you are looking to buy a home, or just bought a home and are moving in an inspection is recommended by Bloomington Chimney Pros. Its important to get an inspection before the use of a new fireplace to avoid complications that may arise from poor conditions. It would be terrible to start up the fireplace only to learn later on there is damages to the flue. A dirty, uninspected fire is a safety hazard that can lead to more costly repairs compared to a simple inspection or cleaning.
